Balance Attack

Estimated reading: 1 minute 105 views

An attack against POW Consensus model methods in which a person splits Miners into two groups with equal Mining power (Group A and Group B), and then submits a transaction to only the Nodes associated with Group A (e.g., a transaction in which the attacker spent Coins) while Mining a different transaction (e.g., a transaction in which the attacker received Coins) alongside Group B. When the two
groups attempt to reconcile the transactions, Group B will theoretically have a longer chain that will receive Consensus and be added to the main Blockchain. As a result, the attacker’s account will not register the Coins that were spent, regardless of whether the attacker received products or services as a result.
